Plot

"The Tempest" by William Shakespeare takes place on an enchanted island, where the wizard Prospero and his daughter Miranda live. Twelve years earlier, Prospero had been unjustly overthrown by his brother Antonio, and now, through skillful magical manipulation, he lures the ship on which Antonio is travelling to his island, along with other prominent characters. Among the castaways are Alonso, the king of Naples, his son Ferdinand and Antonio himself. The storm was caused by Prospero to take revenge for the betrayals he suffered. Prospero is the master of the island, with two servants, the wild Caliban and the aerial spirit Ariel, whom he himself freed from a spell. During the story, Ferdinand and Miranda fall in love, while Caliban plots with two drunken servants to kill Prospero. Meanwhile, Antonio and Alonso's brother Sebastiano conspire for the throne of Naples. Ultimately, Prospero recognizes his revenge as futile and forgives his enemies. He demands his throne in Milan and he frees Ariel and Caliban. He asks Ariel to calm the storm and allow the castaways to return to Italy, while he renounces magic. The story ends in peace and reconciliation.
