Definition

The addition strategy refers to a process of adding words, phrases, clauses, or sentences with the purpose to clarify the expressions. Translators may also use translation by addition to provide clarification or to ensure that the target language audience fully understands the original meaning.

We can use when...

This can occur when the target language has grammatical structures, cultural references, or linguistic nuances that are not present in the source language. Sometimes the translator finds some important terms which are difficult to be translated into the target language.

What does it have to do with Shrek?

We will use the texts of the movie Shrek as an example so that we can observe how addition works in translation.

Since many of the dialogues were "Mexicanized" or adapted to the culture of Latin America.

What were its factors?
