It's the right time for a bagel, the protagonist of the classic American brunch! These soft donut-shaped sandwiches, similar to donuts, are best enjoyed in a savory version, filled with salmon, vegetables, cheeses or cured meats.

Cawl is one of the national dishes of Welsh cuisine. While the Welsh term generically means "soup" or "broth", in English and other languages it refers to a particular traditional Welsh soup, usually called cawl Cymreig in Welsh.

This always makes school children smile when served for lunch in school canteens. It is a dot dish, that is, it is a steamed pudding containing raisins (hence the dots), possibly served with dried fruit and sometimes brandy. It is best served warm, with lots of custard, and remains a very common dessert in Britain.

Despite the unappetizing name, this dish is quite tasty and contrary to what one might think, it does not contain any amphibians. The dish consists of pork sausages (or bangers) baked in a giant Yorkshire pudding and is very tasty served with a strong onion gravy. The name itself is just a linguistic curiosity: it was born in the late 1600s when batter puddings were baked under skewers of roasted meat and later known as dripping pudding. The lean cuts of meat, called 'toadies', are cut away and added to the pudding to create this unique dish.

This dish is traditionally served on Sunday evenings and was created to reuse leftovers. The recipe calls for mixing leftover cabbage and potatoes from the Sunday roast and frying them. The name comes from the sound of the ingredients when they hit the pan - the cabbage really squeaks!
