From Seeds to Wings SIS Rotkreuz-Zug, Year 4 Students created their own recycled paper, embedded with wildflower seeds. They created their own paint colours and dyes using fruits, vegetables and spices. This art piece can now be planted to grow wildflowers and offer habitats to pollinators.

Pirate Ship SIS Rotkreuz-Zug, Year 1 In conjunction with their unit on floating and sinking, Year 1 students made a pirate ship from items that would have been discarded. The students took turns to decide what items to use to make their allocated part of the boat and assemble it.

In this way, students created something wonderful together from a lot of old items. Each student designed their own room and then joined the rooms together to form a common house.

SIS Intercountry Activity 2024

Each year, students from SIS schools across the world participate in the SIS intercountry activity. The purpose of this event is to strengthen the SIS international community and promote international exchange. This year, in line with our sustainability focus, students from our schools in Switzerland, Germany and Brazil were tasked with creating artwork utilising materials that would otherwise be thrown away.

Recycling City of DreamsSIS Zürich-Wollishofen, Year 2, Beaver and Swan Groups This city envisions the hope of their builders, to live together in one big and beautiful place, which is sustainable and where all goods are recycled. During the crafting, traditional techniques helped to build individual habitats and then merge them together into one city. The students wish to live there with their friends, parents and pets.

They discussed how to finalise the composition around the paint, and how the element of color can be used with the principle of contrast to create harmony in the composition."
