variable value resistors
Definition
Electronics is a relatively new branch of technology, its explosion as a comercial product, thanks to advances in semiconductor technology, started in the 1970s. To make electric circuits we use electronic components.
Semiconductors
Semiconductoers are materials which have variable electrical resistance
capacitors
Fixed value resistors
Capacitors
Capacitors acumulate electric energy. Capacitors are made of a pair of conductor plates separated by a dielectric. If we apply tension, the electrons acumulate in one plate and repeal each other. If we conect both plates, the electrons move to the plate with lower electric density, pushed by the tension force. Capacitance is the radio of the electric charge to the tension difference between plates. C=Q/V
Applications of capacitors
Types of capacitors
- Stop the flow of a direct current while allowing alternating current to pass
- Filter interferences
- Filter different frequencies
- Smooth the current
- Store energy
Potentiometers
The resistance value of a potentiometers changes by turning a dialInside the potentiometer there is a fixed value resistor with one end conected to the circuit The dial moves another contact that slides along the fixed value resistor. This contact is conected to the other part of the circuit If the sliding contact is nearer th fixed contact there is less resistance

LDRs
A light dependent resistor is a resistor tha varies its resistance according to the amount of light that falls on its surface. Light is a type of energy, wich unit is the "lux" LDRs detect if its light or dark. If its dark the resistance of the LDR increase and the Ldr switch on the light.
LDRs symbol
Thermistors
Thermistors vary their resistanceaccording to temperature. Wr use thermistors in thermostats to detect temperature The thermistors can increase or reduce their resistance as the temperature increases
Thermistors symbol
Fixed value resistors
A resistor is an electronic component wich we put in a circuit to reduce the flow of electrons Some resistors have a fixed value and some have a variable value Fixed value resistors have four colored bands: The first band is the first digit of the number The second band is the second digit of the number The third band multiplies the number
Diodes
Diodes are components that allow a current to flow in one direction, but stop the flow from the opposite direction. Diodes have two parts: anode and cathode. Electrons can only flow from the anode to the cathode.
Diode bridgeA diode bridge is used to convert alternating currents into direct current
