cos'è e cosa significa fair play?

Fair play significa rispettare le regole e l'avversario, accettare e riconoscere i propri limiti, sapere che i risultati sportivi ottenuti sono correlati all'impegno profuso. Il termine fair play deriva dall'inglese “fair play”, che significa“gioco leale” o “gioco pulito, corretto”. Il fair play nello sport implica il rispetto delle regole, degli avversari e degli arbitri, nonché l'accettazione delle sconfitte e delle vittorie con sportività.

chi ha inventato il fair play e dov'è nato?

Restando in ambito sportivo il fair play come lo intendiamo oggi, prende forma nell'Inghilterra vittoriana in cui gli aristocratici inglesi, nel loro tempo libero organizzavano e partecipavano a competizioni sportive, ma lo facevano come attività fine a se stessa, in cui il risultato era molto meno importante del fatto.

È solo nell'Ottocento, infatti, che in Inghilterra nasce il concetto di fair play, cioè una serie di regole dettate da un codice di comportamento che mette al primo posto il rispetto di se stessi, degli altri e delle regole.
