After explaining how each individual part of the sentence works, he models creating several compound sentences by combining two simple sentences. After modeling how to combine the sentences, the teacher practices the skill with students while they work on the same skill at their seats. The teacher walks around and monitors for accuracy. Once the class has practiced together, the teacher provides opportunities for the students to practice on their own while he gives immediate and corrective feedback.
