NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION & RECONNECTS

FCI uses a flipped-model approach and requests new faculty complete an on-demand pre-orientation to best maximize their time for when they meet for the 2-day Orientation on the Parkville campus at the beginning of August. While orientation introduces new faculty to Park's history, culture, and offers best teaching and learning practices to get them started for the academic year, montnly Reconnects all FCI to check in on new faculty as well as familiarize faculty with other Park departments and services offered. 2-MINUTE MENTORS

In 2016, FCI developed brief (2-3 minute) recordings with quick tips for the classroom to support Park faculty who have expressed interest in participating in continuous learning but may not have as much time to attend longer sessions. These recordings, known as 2-Minute Mentors, continue to be popular, and during the 2023-2024 academic year alone received over 2,300 views with the most watched videos being:

  • Recovering Missing or Deleted Content in Canvas,
  • The Perils and Possibilities of AI, and
  • Importing Content into Canvas.

iNSIGHT JOURNAL

FCI published its 18th volume of Park's academic journal, InSight, during the Fall 2023 semester. Additionally, InSight transitioned to an online-only journal at the beginning of the academic year, which allowed for the accepted manuscripts for volume 19 to be published in a timely manner. Because the journal has become a renowned scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) publication outlet, it had a 28% acceptance rate for volume 18 and a 20% acceptance rate for volume 19. InSight also received over 12,500 unique views of the journal's articles for the 2023-2024 academic year. Furthermore, a new editor came on, and in an effort to extend the journal's reach, social media pages were created for InSight. Click the buttons below to view InSight's social media analytics as well as additional information regarding the journal, including the current and past volumes.

FCI IMPACT TO FACULTY...IN THEIR OWN WORDS. Responses from SIG participants.

I learned SO MUCH in Marina’s special interest group [Educating in the Age of AI]…she opened my eyes to an entirely new world of different AI tools…and discussed the pros/cons along with very practical applications for how we could use them in meaningful and innovative ways. She shared valuable resources, research, and all of our conversations were grounded in the extensive research she did on this topic….We are all better instructors after engaging in this SIG, so thank you Marina!

Candace did a wonderful job leading the [Truth or Consequences] SIG sessions and allowing group members to share their experiences, thoughts, and ideas. She masterfully facilitated this challenging topic, shared wonderful content, and I can't wait to add more of the SIG resources into my courses. Thank you, Candace!

The presentation crafted and then led by Andrew was exceptional! The resources were applicable, namely, as they were time-efficient ones that could be implemented even on the tightest of schedules. Further, they are “learner friendly” to be shared with students….Andrew, thank you for your time and effort [leading the Wellness Matters SIG], as it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

I really enjoyed the challenge of diving deeper into the various subjects and getting to know my fellow instructors. Thank you all again for the opportunity! - 2023-24 FCI Teaching Innovation Fellow

I will say this again and again: FCI and the programming you have created is amazing and so important! You truly have made a huge impact at Park (and beyond). I am just so grateful for [the FCI Team] and I hope you know that. - 2022-23 FCI Teaching Innovation Fellow; 2023-24 Scholarship Fellow

I must admit, I was somewhat apprehensive, but you made the whole experience a great deal easier - I felt more at ease after every one of our interactions. Thank you for your constant support, guidance and extensive resources you shared with us this year! - 2023-24 FCI Teaching Innovation Fellow
