MIXED CONDITIONAL
Second Conditional (if+2nd conditional)
Third Conditional (if+3rd conditional)
- Used to express hypothetical or improbable situations in the present or future.
- Structure: If + subject + past simple verb, subject + would + infinitive verb.
- Example: If I had more time, I would go to the gym.
- Used to talk about hypothetical situations in the past where the action didn't happen.
- Structure: If + subject + had + past participle, subject + would have + past participle.
- Example: If she had studied harder, she would have passed the exam.
If + 3rd Conditional
Second Conditional (2nd conditional)
- Sometimes referred to simply as the second conditional.
- Structure: If + subject + past simple verb, subject + would/could/might + infinitive verb.
- Example: If I were rich, I would travel the world.
- Similar to the third conditional but with a slightly different structure.
- Structure: If + subject + had + past participle, subject + would + infinitive verb.
- Example: If they had left earlier, they would have caught the train.
