He was one of Giuseppe Morello's five lieutenants then one and only godfather in New York he stenghtens his control over organized crime in New York.In 1930 a powerful sicilian crime boss decided to challenge Masseria for conrol decided to challenge Masseria for control of the city wich led to a war between the two clans the masseria family and the maranzano family.Finally Masseria was betrayed by his own lieutenants Salvatore Lucania and Vito Genovese with the complicity of Salvatore Maranzano Masseria was killed on april 15,1931 while he was having lunch in a restaurant in the company of luciano
