INTRODUCTION:

"The Problem We All Live With" is a 1964 painting by Norman Rockwell. It is very famous for its unique style and its significant impact on the history of art.

PART 1: DESCRIPTION

In the first part of the presentation, we will describe the image in more detail.

The painting shows us a little black girl. She has got medium kinky black hair in a ponytail. She has got small almond black eyes. She is wearing a white dress and carrying two school notebooks and a ruler. There are four headless U.S. Marshals. There are two in front of her, and two behind her.

They are wearing grey and beige suits and they have armbrands. They have badges of federal marchals. The scene takes place in the street. On the wall, there is a racial insult. There is a smashed tomato.

Part 2 :Interpretation.

The painting depicts a young African American girl, Ruby Bridges, being escorted by U.S. Marshals to her first day at an all-white school in New Orleans, in 1960. This is happening during the process of school racial desegregation in the United states of America. She gets escorted because the threats and violence against her. She is dressed in white to emphasize her skin color. The marshalls are headless to put the stress on their function.

What does the artist want to tell?

Even if desegregation is in process, it will be a long way towards equality between white and black people.
