NUTRITION AND REPRODUCTION

  • To turn into adults, amphibians go through metamorphosis. In this proccess, larvae grow and turn into an adult.
  • Adults breathe through lungs and larvae grow through gills, and they can also use cutaneous respiration.

GROUPS AND TYPES OF FINS

  • There are two groups of fins depending on its skeleton: cartilaginous fish and bony fish.
  • Cartilaginous fish have heterocercal caudal fin (it has uneben lobes), bony fish have homocercal caudal fin (it has lobes of equal size).

OF BIRDS
  • Eagle: strong, curved beak to tear meat.
  • Macaw: hard, thick beak to open seeds and fruits.
  • Pelican: long beak with a pouch to carry fish.
  • Curlew: long, curved beak to capture buried prey.

CHARACTERISTICS AND PARTS

OF THE FISH
  • Fish have fusiform body that helps them to move in the water.
  • They have a lateral line that allows them to detect obstacles and catch prey.
  • Most have a swim bladder that fills with gas and helps them to float.
  • They have gills to breathe protected by the operculum.
  • They have fins to propel and stabilise themselves. They have scales to protect their bodies.

  • They have hollow bones to make easier flying.
  • They breathe using lungs that have air sacs.
  • They have an organ called gizzard to help them in the digestion.
  • They have other parts like wings, feathers and beak.

There are three groups of mammals:

  • Monotremes (e.g.: platypus)
  • Marsupials (e.g.: kangaroos)
  • Placental (e.g.: dogs)

  • Reptiles have tough scales that protect them.
  • Most of them have a very special tongue that can smell and taste and also has touch receptors.

  • Cryptodira (e.g.: turtles)
  • Ophidia (e.g.: snakes)
  • Lizards (e.g.: iguanas)

CHARACTERISTICS

OF VERTEBRATES
  • They all have backbone. Inside the backbone is the spinal cord.
  • They have an internal skeleton made of bone and cartilage.
  • Their bodies are covered with skin that's used to sense the environment and protect the animal. The skin can be covered with hair, scales or feathers.

  • Amphibians have smooth skin with no hair or scales.
  • They have an elastic, sticky tongue used to catch their prey.
  • There are 2 groups depending on its tail (or no tail): anuran, e.g.: frogs or toads; and urodela, e.g.: salamanders or newts.

  • Female mammals have mammary glands that produce milk which they use to feed their offspring.
  • Most of them are covered in fur, used to preserve the warm and to camouflage.
