Héliocentrisme ou géocentrisme

Observée dans un référentiel géocentrique, la Lune tourne autour de la Terre sur une trajectoire quasi-circulaire. Elle présente un aspect qui varie au cours de cette rotation (phases). o La lune tourne également sur elle-même et présente toujours la même face à la Terre.

Origine possible de la lune

La Lune serait née peu de temps après la formation du système solaire et la projection de comètes, de météores et d’astéroïdes, il y a 4,5 milliards d’années. La collision entre la Terre et un bolide de la taille de Mars aurait fait tourbillonner de la roche en fusion dans l’espace. Au fil du temps, des nuages de débris se seraient rassemblés pour former la Lune.

Son rayon équatorial est de 1 738,1 km et son rayon polaire de 1 736,0 km , ce qui lui confère un aplatissement de 0,001, trois fois plus faible que celui de la Terre. Son rayon moyen est de 1 737,4 km , ce qui correspond à 27 % du rayon terrestre environ.

Etant donné que la Lune n’est pas toujours positionnée de la même façon, son éclairage varie.C’est la raison pour laquelle on ne la voit pas toujours pareil : en croissant, en quartier ou en pleine lune.

Il existe 8 phases dans le cycle lunaire : - Nouvelle lune : difficile à observer, on peut la voir de jour mais pas la nuit. - Premier croissant : la Lune forme un croissant sur sa partie droite. - Premier quartier : toute la moitié droite est visible. - Lune Gibbeuse croissante : sa face visible est plus qu'à demi éclairée. - Pleine lune : la Lune est totalement éclairée. - Lune Gibbeuse décroissante : sa face visible est plus qu'à demi éclairée. - Dernier quartier : moitié gauche visible. - Dernier croissant : croissant en C sur la partie gauche. L'intervalle entre 2 pleines lunes dure toujours 29 jours, 12 heures et 44 minutes. On appelle cette période la lunaison.
