PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE

General truths or facts: We use the present simple to talk about general facts that are always true or permanent about the world or general facts that we think are true and permanent at the present time . Time passes very quickly when you get older. I really love my job. Mr Arnold doesn't teach me but he teaches my sister. Do you live in San Salvador? My cousin lives there too. We often use the present simple to describe a series of actions-one action after another. We see this especiallly in stories, summaries of stories or reviews: ( talking about the series of events in a novel) Alex doesn't ring back at midnight. . . she waits till the morning to ring, and they get annoyed with Sara when she goes on. . . they know she's got plenty of money by their standards.

PRESENT SIMPLE FORM

We use the base form of the verb, and add -s for the third person singular.

+ Affirmative form:Subject: Verb I/you/we/they + Speak he/she/it + Speaks Third person verbs need the final ''s'' in affirmative sentences. I speak Spanish. He speaks English. They live in San Salvador. She lives in New York.
-Negative form: Subject: Verb: I/you/we/they + don't + speak he/she/it + doesn't + need Affirmative: I speak English. Negative: I don't speak English Affirmative: She plays soccer. Negative: She doesn't play soccer.

PRESENT SIMPLE FORM

We use the base form of the verb, and add -s for the third person singular.

¿? Interrogative Form: Auxiliary: Subject: Verb: Do + I/you/we/they + Speak Does + he/she/it + Like Affirmative: Affirmative: You speak English. He cooks a cake Interrogative: Interrogative: Do you speak English? Does he cook a cake? The base form of the infinitive: To go, to need Third person verbs lose the final ''s'' in questions.
