Cooperative learning

1, 2, 4 technique

We will divide the class into 5 groups of 4 people. Each group will be asked to do the activity thinking about ONE of the five senses. We will apply the 1, 2, 4 cooperative technique to think about daily life situations in which we use the senses.

  • 1. Individual: think of a situation in which you use your sense of sight and write it down in your notebook (2 min).
  • 2. In pairs: explain the situation to your partner and write down your partner's situation. If you have written down the same situation, think of a new situation (3 min).
  • 4. As a group: Explain your situations and write down a new situation in which you use your sense of sight (5 min).
  • At the end of the acitvity, you will write 3 different situations in your notebook (Keep them safely, you will use them later).
The teacher will give the students the following worksheet to complete and paste in their notebook.

Observing through hearing involves listening to sounds around them and identifying their source. Kids can listen to bird songs, the rustling of leaves, or the sound of raindrops.

Now... close your eyes...Can you identify these sounds?

Match each food with its flavor

The teacher will print this worksheet and complete it with the students.

The teacher will give the students the following worksheet to complete and paste in their notebook.

Observing through sight involves looking closely at objects and noting their...

color

shape

size

patterns.

What else can we observe? Think about activities in your daily life

Observe through touch to explore the texture, temperature, and hardness of objects. Kids can touch different types of materials such as sand, water, feathers, or bark.

Teacher will model this activity by putting the mystery box in front of the class. Teacher will close her eyes, and she/he will put her/his hands into the box and by using her five senses. The teacher will try to guess what the item inside the box could be. The students will then be told to put their hands into the box and try to observe and guess what the object could be. Teacher will walk around the classroom to observe students participation. Some of their descriptions for the items inside the box are, for example, soft, rough, bumpy, smooth, hard, hot or cold. Students will be sharing their impressions.

Observing through smell involves detecting and describe odors. Kids can explore different scents in their environment, such as flowers, fruits, or spices.

Now... close your eyes...Can you identify these smells?
