What is a modal verb?
MUST/MUSTN'T
Must:We use "must" to express something that is necessary or required. It implies a strong obligation or necessity. Ex: "Students must complete their work on time."
Mustn't:We use "mustn't" to express something that is prohibited or not allowed. Ex: "Drivers mustn't exceed the speed limit."
Have to/ Don't have to
Have to:We use "have to" to express something that is necessary or required Ex: "I have to finish this report by tomorrow."
Don't have to:We use "don't have to" to express something that is not necessary or required. Ex: "Students don't have to wear uniforms at this school."
Need to/Don't need to
Need to:We use "need to" to express something that is necessary or required, similar to "have to." Ex: "I need to buy groceries today."
Don't need to:We use "don't need to" to express something that is not necessary or required. Ex: "Students don't need to memorize the entire textbook for the exam."
Should/Shouldn't
Should:We use "should" to give advice or make recommendations. It implies that something is the best or most appropriate course of action. Ex: "You should see a doctor if you're feeling unwell."
Shouldn't:We use "shouldn't" to advise against a particular action or behavior. It indicates that something is not recommended.. Ex: "You shouldn't eat too much junk food."
