chemical bonding

Is the union that is stablished between the atoms, molecules or ions of a substance so that it has maximum estability. When two atoms join together they can create molecules or crystal latices. In the molecule there is a defined number of atoms, while in the crystal there is a variable number of atoms.

Ionic bonding is the bond resulting from the electrostatic attraction forces between ions with different signs.

IONIC BONDING

COVALENT BOND

METALLIC BONDS

An ionic bonding is between a metal and non-metal.-The metal loses electrons and form a cataion. -The non-metal gains electrons and form a anion. ·It´s a crystal:solid ·It is soluble in water ·It has a high boiling and melting point ·It is a good electricity conductor when it's solved or melted

PROPERTIES OF IONIC SUBSTANCES

METALLIC BONDS:

-The metal atoms lose electrons and form a web of cataions.-The electrons form a cloud and move around the cataions -Together they form a crystally lattice
CRYSTALLINE COVALENT LATTICES

-GRAPHITE:is soft and it can conduct electricity.-DIAMOND:is the hardest substance in nature,it doesn't conduct electricity. -QUARZ:doesn't conduct electricity and it's what the sand is made of.

PROPERTIES:

-They are not soluble in water-They are good conductors of heat and electricity -They are ductile and malleable -They are solid except mercury -Melting and boilingpoints are very variable

COVALENT BOND

It happens between non-metal atoms. They share electrons. They can form molecules or crystal lattices.
