Same rights, better lives:

let's break the chains of inequality!

III C S.S.S.I grado "Viale delle Acacie" - NAPOLI s.y. 2023/24

With gratitude, my dear boys and girls, for your hard work, constant cooperation and concrete support in the realization of this original project-work digital book, reading which, one day, I hope you will remember some nice moments of your youth. Many thanks to my colleague Mrs. Claudia Varriale, too, for her professionality and patience. Prof. Olga Iollo

Carrying out the learning unit "Human rights" and in occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the Women's Day, I thought of making my students of the 3rd class course C tackle the issue gender equality, asking them (individually and in groups) to: - Think about what they could do in the fight for the equality between men and women - Create slogans on gender equality. There is still a long way to go before women and men, girls and boys, in all their diversity, can be free to pursue their chosen path in life, have equal opportunities to thrive, and equally participate in, and lead, our society. In the realization of this original project-work my students aimed at some key objectives such as: ending gender-based violence; challenging gender stereotypes; closing gender gaps in the labour market; achieving equal participation across different sectors of the economy; addressing the gender pay and pension gaps; closing the gender care gap and achieving gender balance in decision-making and in politics. I consider this digital book a sort of challenge that my students have launched to the statesmen, suggesting good practices in everyday life to promote, all together, a real social advancement. Prof.ssa Olga Iollo S.S.S.I grado Viale delle Acacie

For years women have fought for their rights, and they have managed to create the world where we live, which is based on gender equality, but apparently. In fact, despite all the last progress, there are still many inequalities between men and women, for example women have more difficulties getting a job and get paid less than men. Then, there are still many prejudices and stereotypes against women and some people still think that women are less important, less capable at work, or dumber than men. In some countries, unfortunately, women still haven't their freedom, and many girls are forced to get married at a very young age. In daily life, everyone can do something to eliminate gender inequality. For example, we can stop having prejudices and stereotypes against women and stop making sexist jokes. We can call out any inequality we find in social media, advertisements, journal articles, or chats between friends and family members. In my opinion, one of the most important things is being kind and respectful to everyone and educating children to respect everyone no matter their gender. It's also important to support feminist organizations by joining them or donating them money.

GENDER EQUALITY

Nowadays, is one of the most important goals to achieve to live in a cohesive society. In the last 150 years, we’ve already made a lot of thanks to thousands of women who fought to be considered equal to men, but we need to continue this fight to achieve equality in practice. How can we do this? First of all, I think that the most important thing to do is to educate children. I think so because education can eliminate a lot of stereotypes. Secondly, we need to change ourselves before trying to change others. The most important thing that we need to do is to start living with the idea that women are equal to men and that they’re not less important, strong, or intelligent. Thirdly, another important thing is to talk about gender equality as a common goal. If everyone starts thinking differently now, I think that one day, our society could finally become really inclusive and cohesive.

Equality for a better world

Nowadays, women have reached social emancipation in many sectors such as political one. However, in different countries and areas they are still fighting for the same rights as men. During the years, women have done lots of progress and got great results, like the right to vote. Despite all, we still have many problems to solve to achieve gender equality. Indeed, it’s difficult to reach it but gender equality is fundamental for a just society where everyone deserves respect, dignity and equal treatment, but how to achieve it? -Educating children at school, but especially at home -Teaching respect towards other people -Removing all barriers, especially the psychological ones In my opinion, it's unacceptable that women have to fight for their rights,

Nowadays everyone thinks that women and men have equal rights but unfortunately there is still an of gender. Obviously society has evolved a lot,now women can vote and are no longer considerate men’s property,or not completely. But men have still more advantages than women,in the work and social spheres. To change this,I think that we should teach the kids the mutual respect regardless of genders.

The fifth goal of Agenda 2030 is: '' Gender Equality''. To reach this goal is important that everyone tries to respect women, avoids gender stereotypes and the most important thing is to teach equality at school, because it is essential to create an inclusive society. Another important thing is to avoid femicides, where the man that is stronger, kills or threaten the women that is sometimes scared to denunce the violence. To end femicides it is necessary to to develop the sites and the organizations that support women who are victims of violence. Gender equality is very important because it is a way to improve the world we live in.

My gender does not determinate my abilities

Nowadays there is a lot of discrimination between women and men. We can find some examples:a lot of women in their profession earn less money than men. In my opinion women and men aren’t different and they have the same rights. We can solve the discrimination against women with more respect from everyone and by sensitizing children about it and by educating them and eliminating the prejudices. Nowadays discrimination against women is diffused in every aspect of life like in personal relationships with verbal and sexual violence. This is what i think about discrimination against women.

Nowadays gender discrimination (the situation in which people are treated differently simply because of their gender) is a big issue, so we still have to work if we want to eliminate it. There are several ways we can act if we want to help in the fight for equality, one of them is helping people speaking out about their own experiences in order to make people aware. Then it could be important to call out discrimination everywhere we find it, because stereotypes and other kinds of discrimination are still possible to find in many advertisements, on social media and in textbooks. Another really important thing is to join in societies for gender equality and female leadership because there is a strength in numbers. Finally, we should eliminate double standards from our society because, even if we don't think it's not correct to expect girls to be quiet and nice and guys to be brave, it could make them lose their self-confidence. Gender equality is really important if we want to live in the best possible world, of course we have to achieve it!

fewer stereotypes and more rights

Gender equality is very important in a society where every individual has the same right and equal opportunity to grow. Many of this women have already reached some right the one to vote and the universal suffrage. We have to do something if we want to reach gender equality. Firstly we have to eliminate the sexist words and other hateful remarks. Secondly we could join other people for manifestation or associations to support women. Finally we have to encourage the education of girl since they are young age to they grow up . It's fundamental to teach respect for women and to create a beautiful world for women . In my view , all people must have the same rights and give a hand to achieve gender equality to give future generation the possibilty to live in a better world "equal" for everybody

Nowadays, most people think that we live in a completely equal society. But is this real? Unfortunately not. One thing in our world which isn't right is the absence of gender equality. In fact, in a lot of cases, women are discriminated just for their gender. This is due to prejudices, small minds, and the idea that women are less capable than men. Some women also suffer violence, that can be physical, sexual, verbal... To stop these things, we all should do something. First of all we have to stop ourselves from telling sexual jokes, and have prejudices. Then we have to convince others to do the same thing. We also must denounce if we know or see discriminations against women, if they haven't the courage to do it by themselves. We can also try to support some organizations that fight for gender equality. If we all fight together we will have a better world for us and next generations.

Nowadays the issue of equality between men and women has improved greatly compared to the past, but there are still many inequalities. How can we fight them? The strongest weapon of all this is the mind. Only with school kids can learn to respect others by learning what women in the past had to go through. But parenting must not be understimated. Parents must also carry out the task of forming an open conscience in the child. The child needs to see that his/her parents do the same tasks and that they get the same treatment and rights. For me this is essential so the kids can grow up and recognize what’s fair and what’s not.

Gender equality persists as a perennial challenge, defying eradication despite concerted efforts. Deep-seated biases permeate education, employment, and leadership roles, hindering progress. STEM fields remain male-dominated, while the gender pay gap persists in the workforce. Gender-based violence perpetuates victim-blaming and impunity. Meaningful change demands legislative reforms, educational initiatives, and cultural shifts. Empowering women through education, economic opportunities, and political representation is paramount. Confronting biases, dismantling barriers, and championing inclusivity are imperative for a more equitable society. True gender equality necessitates collective action and unwavering commitment.

Gender equality is a fundamental principle that promotes fairness and equal opportunities for individuals of all genders. It is a concept that seeks to eliminate discrimination and bias based on gender, ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and has access to the same rights, resources, and opportunities. Another crucial aspect of gender equality is education. Every individual, regardless of their gender, should have equal access to quality education. Gender equality in education involves ensuring that girls and boys have equal opportunities to attend school, receive the same level of education, and pursue their chosen career paths without any limitations or social expectations. Gender equality also extends to healthcare. Every individual should have access to quality healthcare services, regardless of their gender. This includes reproductive health services, access to contraception, and equal treatment for diseases and illnesses. Gender equality is not just a women's issue; it is a human rights issue that affects everyone. When we achieve gender equality, we create a society that is fairer, more inclusive, and more prosperous. It allows individuals to reach their full potential, contribute to society, and live a life free from limitations and barriers. In conclusion, gender equality is a crucial goal that we must strive for. It is about ensuring that every individual, regardless of their gender, has equal rights, opportunities, and access to resources. By working together and promoting gender equality, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.

How can we achieve gender equality?

We could invest in education, parents should teach their children respect for everyone, the importance of differences between people that make unique a person for own qualities.

Alessandra P.
Gennaro A.

According to the 5th goal of the sustainable development agenda, gender equality should be achieved by 2030, but this result is currently still a long way off.So what can we do to achieve equality between men and women? In my opinion, we should make all people understand that there are no differences between these two genders and educate people to respect both men and women equally. In summary, I think it is still very important to educate young people, through work at school, creating posters and organizing events.

Lorenzo R.

Nowadays, gender equality is one of the most important goals to achieve. To achieve this goal, there should be correct education and awareness of the phenomenon of violence against women. We must denounce discrimination acts against women if they haven't the courage to do it by themselves. If we all fight together for gender equality we can stop these violences, prejudices and discriminations against women. If we all fight together, we will have a better world for us and the next generations. To achieve gender equality and reduce inequalities: -Eliminate gender violence -Eliminate inequalities in the world of work -Obtain full partecipation in various economic fields

QUALITY

EQUALITY

Leonardo M.

Every day women fight against prejudices, injustices and stereotypes related to gender inequality. Nowadays, in fact, there is still a lot of discrimination, for example, women are usually paid less at work, have to struggle to get a job and are penalized if they have children or only plan to have children. Women are often considered less capable, less strong, and less suitable for leadership roles even if history, science and progress have already proved the opposite. In my opinion, everyone can do something to change the situation and improve women's future. First of all, we can fight stereotypes and prejudices, and explain to people that there is no difference between men and women. We can teach young children that boys and girls are the same and that they must have the same rights and opportunities. We can support all the organizations that promote gender equality by joining them or donating money. We can report all the discrimination that we see. So, there are still many steps to be taken for gender equality, but each of us can give support to achieve it.

Emma N.

Nowadays gender inequality is still very strong and present in society, but I think there are many ways we can fight it and reduce the stereotypes. One of these ways is making students learn about this in school and make them do many projects about this topic. Another thing that should be done is eliminating and fighting sexist ideas and preconcepts. Something that city municipalities could do, would be to create more annual projects on this topic to fight gender inequality.

FIGHT SEXIST IDEAS!

Teresa L.

Nowadays we live in a society in which events of inequalities, discriminations and prejudices still occur. Among these I also refer to the inequality between men and women. In fact, women are considered weaker, less intelligent and therefore inferior compared to men. These descriptions often also turn into physical, psychological and verbal violence. Achieving gender equality is goal 5 of the 2030 agenda, but how to achieve gender equality? First of all, I think we need to educate children in order to eliminate all prejudices. Secondly, we must change our mentality by starting to understand that women are not less intelligent or more incapable than men, and convince others of this too. All together we can succeed in defeating all discriminations and prejudices and therefore making the world a better place

Fernanda P.

All together we can break the chains of inequality:
