Biodiversity Issue infographic

By students from Public School N165, Tbilisi

Who participated in our survey?

We asked our parents and siblings. 65 people participated in total. We learned that people already have ideas what biodiversity is and try to address the issues such as pollution, food waste and global warming. First, we thought that most of them will choose pollution, but only 32 of them chose it. Most of them chose global warming about 56 people and food waste was chosen by 12 of them. Now we think that as people already know about pollution, global warming and food waste, we should raise awareness about overconsumption.

Which actions are people most willing to take to address biodiversity issues

We learned that many of our survey respondents are willing to write to city leaders about the issues, but they also think that city authorities won’t take their suggestions into account and take any measures. We thought that many of our respondents would be aware of about biodiversity issues, especially about food waste and overconsumption, but they were not. We were surprised that more people try to purchase as much food as they need not because of the protecting the biodiversity, but because they don’t have much money for storing the products. Also, they didn’t know that overconsumption is the most critical issue for our community.

Our Recommendations

  • Buy the food enough to your family and share the extra food with those in need.
  • Don’t use resources excessively
  • Don’t cut down trees for housing
  • Raise awareness about overconsumption
