Who is Albert Bandura?

Albert Bandura was a Canadian-American psychologist. He was a professor of social science in psychology at Stanford University. Bandura is internationally recognized as one of the world's most influential social psychologists for his groundbreaking research on the importance of learning by observing others.

What is the Social Learning Theory?

Social learning theory suggests that social behavior is learned by observing and imitating the behavior of others. Psychologist Albert Bandura developed social learning theory open_in_new as an alternative to the earlier work of fellow psychologist B.F. Skinner, known for his influence on behaviorism.

What are the Mediational Processes?

Retention: the fact of keeping something in one's memory If a kid remembers the parents fighting he will later use conflict as a way to comunicate.

Attention: notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important Ex: A kid observing parents fighting.

Motor Reproduction: Motor reproduction processes are those that move component actions stored in memory into overt action resembling that of the modeled behaviors. 90 year old lady attemting to ice skate, because she saw Dancing on Ice.

Motivation: the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way. When a person sees or is presented money they tend to work harder.

Investigate specific examples where bandura's social learning theory has been applied successfully in educational settings, discussing the outcome and implications for learning.

A child who grows up to fear cockroaches because his mother has a fear of cockroaches is modeling the phobic behavior he has observed his entire childhood. While Bandura's social learning theory shared some aspects of behavioral learning theories, he had some novel thoughts on the subject of learning. For example, if a child observes their parents going to work every day, volunteering at a local community center, and helping their significant other with tasks around the home, the child is likely to mimic those behaviors. If rewarded, these behaviors become reinforced and most likely repeated by the individual.

explore the ethical considerations surrounding the use of modeling in advertising and media, analyzing the potential impact on individuals' behaviors and attitudes.

Bandura's paperwork suggests that consent was only obtained from the teachers of the children, not legal guardians. Bandura subjected the children to mental harm in the sense that he tried to encourage aggression behavior. This touches on the issue of safety and also violates basic psychological ethical standards.

EXPLORE BANDURA'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO UNDERSTANDING AGGRESSION AND VIOLENCE IN THE MEDIA, DISCUSSING THE IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIETAL ATTITUDES AND BEHAVEIORS.

Using this theory, learners learn a great deal simply by observing others. Describing the consequences of behavior increases appropriate behaviors, decreasing inappropriate ones. It includes discussing the rewards of various behaviors.

Reflect on the enduring legacy of Albert Bandura in the field OF psychology, discussing the continued relevance of his theories and their implications for contemporary reaserch and practice

He gave us the social learning theory and the social cognitive perspective. He also gave us the concept of reciprocal determinism. Reciprocal determinism: how behavior, environment, and internal personal factors interact and influence one another.
