Friendship and social media can have both positive and negative influences on the academic performance and emotional well-being of elementary school students. Friendship can foster better academic performance, while social media can provide additional social connection. However, it is important to monitor and guide the use of social media to ensure a healthy balance and avoid potential negative effects.
Albert Bandura (1987) states that individuals are influenced by their social environment. From the above, it can be said that friendships do influence academic performance since if the adolescent associates with friends who have good grades, they tend to have good academic performance. In turn, the adolescent, when hanging out with peers with low grades, also begins to adopt these behaviors. On the other hand, social networks are of great importance for teamwork since online education now exists and using them effectively is very useful for academic performance.
