L'ORCHESTRA SINFONICA, COSI' COME LA CONOSCIAMO OGGI, NASCE NELL'OTTOCENTO. L'ORCHESTRA E' DIVISA IN SEZIONI PER ALCUNE COMPOSIZIONI, PUO' ARRIVARE A CONTARE ANCHE PIU' DI 100 MUSICISTI
In base alla modalità di produzione del suono,gli strumenti musicali si dividono in 4 famiglie principali:

I CORDOFONI
I Cordofoni, detti anche strumenti a corda, sono quelli in cui il suono è prodotto dalla vibrazione di una corda. Il modo in cui la corda viene sollecitata è però differente nei vari sottogruppi dei cordofoni.
CORDOFONI
Il modo in cui la corda viene sollecitatapermette di suddividere i CORDOFONI in 3 sottofamiglie
CORDE PERCOSSE
CORDE PIZZICATE
CORDE SFREGATE
Il suono viene prodotto percuotendo (ossia battendo) le corde.
Il suono viene prodotto sfregando le corde con un archetto.
Il suono viene prodotto pizzicando le corde.
GLI AEROFONI
Gli Aerofoni, detti anche strumenti ad aria, sono quelli in cui il suono è prodotto dalla vibrazione dell'aria contenuta in un tubo. Vengono a loro volta classificati facendo riferimento al materiale con cui sono costruiti. Per questa ragione abbiamo due sottofamiglie: i legni e gli ottoni.
AEROFONI
Questi strumenti vengono tradizionalmente classificati facendo riferimento al MATERIALE con cui sono stati costruiti, che è importantissimoper la formazione del timbro di ciascuno strumento.

GLI STRUMENTIA PERCUSSIONE
Gli Strumenti a Percussione (comunemente detti Percussioni) sono strumenti musicali il cui suono scaturisce dal battimento, dallo sfregamento o dall'agitazione, con o senza l'ausilio di bacchette o oggetti similari, dello strumento stesso da parte dell'esecutore.
PERCUSSIONI
- Alcune percussioni producono suoni di altezza precisa e sono pertanto dette a intonazione determinata.
- Altre producono invece suoni privi di altezza precisa e sono dette a intonazione indeterminata.
IDIOFONI
MEMBRANOFONI
Il suono è generato dalla vibrazione dell'intero corpo dello strumento.
Sono dotati di una membrana che viene in vari modi percossa.
GLI ELETTROFONI
Gli strumenti elettrofoni utilizzano l'elettricità per produrre il suono. Sono i protagonisti assoluti della musica rock ed in particolare del quartetto rock, formazione che ha iniziato ad imporsi sulla scena musicale negli anni '60 del Novecento.
