She remembers that Lola Flores was a very energetic woman and with a lot of character. When my grandmother was a young girl, she and her friends wanted to be like Lola Flores, a singer or and actress, but in those years, it was very difficult, especially for women. They had to start working very soon cleaning houses, cooking…
- She likes this song because she was born in Andalucía and she likes the flamenco music.
- When she listens to it, she remembers her village and she feels happiness and she wants to dance.
- She liked to listen to this song for dancing and stay with her friends.
- She was born in an Andalusian village and there, people like this type of songs.
The part of the song that she likes is the chorus, because this is the part that repeats the singer and this is the part that she remembers.
This is the chorus:"Ay, pena, penita, pena, pena, pena de mi corazón, que me corre por las venas, pena, con la fuerza de un ciclón."
- She listened to the song on the radio in RNE but she doesn´t remember the programme.
- She told me that in this programme, they could listen to music and theatre plays.
- Her favourite song is ´´Ay pena, penita, pena´´.
- This song was sung by several singers but the most famous version is the song of Lola Flores.
- In 1953 Lola Flores sang this song in a film called ´´Ay pena, penita, pena´´.
- This song was composed by Quintero, León and Quiroga, three composers from Andalucía, in 1951.
When my grandmother was about 10 years old, she and her family didn´t have a radio at home but a neighbour had one. She turned on the radio and opened the window, then my grandmother sat near the window to listen it. She could listen to this song and she liked it very much.
This song was very famous in the fifties. This is the reason why this song has been sung by many singers, for example:
- Gipsy Kings (1990)
- Joan Manuel Serrat (1994)
- Antonio Vega (2007).

- Lola Flores was a famous Spanish actress, dancer and singer. She was born in 1923 in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) and she was one of the most important singers of Andalusian couplet.
- This song talks about the singer's sadness because the person she loves is far away.
- This is the chorus of the song:
´´Ay pena, penita, pena, pena Pena de mi corazón Que me corre por las venas, pena Con la fuerza de un ciclón´´
´´Oh pain, pain, pain, pain Pain of my heart That runs through my veins, pain With the force of a cyclone´´
