THE FIRST STONE

Once the old Romanesque cathedral, where the king had married on November 30, 1219, had been eliminated, the first stone of the new temple was placed on July 21, 1221. The place chosen was the current base of the dome and the model was the floor plan of the French cathedrals. A great project directed by Master Enrique began its journey with the permanent support of the priests who had received this commission from the bishop.

CHARACTERISTICS

With a Latin cross plan, it consists of three naves, a transept and 19 chapels distributed irregularly. The transept dome is octagonal, flanked by eight large pinnacles. The central nave is closed by a large fence, being divided into three parts: the High Altar, the Choir and the Transept. The cathedral is gotic and is from the Renaissance.
