By being sisters cities, Calexico and Mexicali's population share a special bound. There are all connected by this wall . Some people explain that they feel like Calexico and Mexicali form a third nation apart from USA and Mexico and that sometimes it happen that they forget which side they are.And this is what makes the strenght of this community with a bicultural society. Despite this they feel like this wall is like a discrimination, something which divide them when they feel like they can't live without each other. This wall destroy families. To fight and to continue to live even if their is the wall families and people often meet each other at the border, and some actions are made to embellish the wall and to make people smile, for exemple an artist decided to pain the wall the same color as the sky , to change people mind when see people accross the lance.
Calexico
Calexico is a city located in the southern tip of California, bordering Mexico.In Calexico their is a lot of thing to do such as shopping, work, but their is also a lot of activities for families, kids and so on. The main particularity of this city is that she is in co-dependance with her sister city: Mexicali. Mexicali is on the mexican border, and it's superficy is seven times bigger than Calexico. Mexicali and Calexico have both different lifestyle but they still have a special bound, citizens of both cities have healthy relationships with each others.It's like a big family.
MAQUILADORAS
Maquiladoras designate us factories that are built on the other side of the mexican border. They’re built here in order to reduce costs. Due to maquiladoras it allows the expansion of the industry but also the increasment of the exportation. This explain how maquiladoras became the city’s economic engine and how it makes Calexico one of the major manufacturing center by transform it from a farming town into an industrial city. Despite this industries at the border comports some disadvantages, in fact all those compagnies cause a lot of pollution at the border, which disturbs citizens, in fact pollution can cause many issues but the most worrying is that it can endanger the health of the people.
