Chapter I.
Author's Biography.
George
Orwell.
George orwell, born in Bengal in 1903 then moved to London, was an English novelist and critic. Known for his novels 1984 and Animal Farm, he comes from a poor family and travelled from Bengal to Uk as a child, where he started school. He was different by other boys for his poverty but also for his incredible intellingence. So he studied until 1921, then he decided to follow his family's traditions and, in 1922, he went to India to work in the Indian Imperial Police. But when World War II started, Orwell abandoned his indian work, he was rejected for military service, so in 1943 and became literary editor of the Tribune, a socialist paper, writing many newspaper articles and reviews, with serious criticism, talking about decentralist socialism, that was very different from the one practiced in UK.

Chapter II.
The Plot.
1984 is a dystopian novel set in a London's totalitarian society, ruled by the Party led by Big Brother. Actually in war with another country. "WAR IS PEACE".In this society, is talked a new language, the "neo-language", that doesn't include any word that may remember freedom or justice, so nobody can express them. "IGNORANCE IS STREGNTH".Winston Smith, the main character, is against the Regime, that controls everything about his life and memories (he's not sure about what year it is, but on his diary he writes 4th april 1984, except when he's at Ministry of Love, where he can't distinguish day from night). "FREEDOM IS SLAVERY". Then he'll know Julia, a girl that shares the same ideas as Winson, and they'll try to escape the society with a general named 'O Brien, which is in reality a undercover spy that will bring them to torture and brainwash. At the end they'll love Big Brother.
Chapter III.
Characters.
Main and
Secondary.
'O Brien
Julia
Winston Smith
Main character, he works at Ministry of Truth, where he's responsible of modify the history written on books and journals to match it with the history invented by the regime. He writes his thoughts and his life's moments to leave a word for someone alse, but that's illegal in the regime, so he does that secretly. He's the symbol of the weakness of the people in front of the authority of the regime (an ex. is when he got brainwashed and forced to love Big Brother), he also represent the idea of a real and civil democracy.
He's the personification of the Party (because nobody has ever seen Big Brother), and he pretends to be a follower of Emmanuel Goldstein (see next slide), so Winston, who's searching for someone to escape the regime, starts to interact with 'O Brien, who in reality is an undercover spy, that will bring Winston and Julia to the Ministry of Love to clean their mind from the revolutionary thoughts.
Julia is a young girl that lives in the proletary district in the same city as Winston. She's a rebel, like him, and they'll start a love relationship for this reason. She wants freedom in the State that controls everybody's life, but she do that in different ways than Winston. She's a Prolet, a term used in the book to call people from her district, so she just want her personal freedom (she rebels against the state violating rules about sex and alchool), unlike Winston who wants a political revolution and freedom.
Emmanuel Goldstein
Big Brother
He's the Head of the Internal Party, the first opponent of the government. Somebody thinks that's a real opponent, some other think that's an excuse to mantain control of the State. His figure it's used to generate hate from the people and justify the fails of the regime.
He's the Head of the Party, his face is everywhere, on journals, on posters, on tv's and in the regime's people's rooms. He has three mottos: "WAR IS PEACE" "IGNORANCE IS STREGNTH" "FREEDOM IS SLAVERY", them represents the controvertial aspects of the regime. He's symbol of the absolute power of the State and the loss of personal freedom.
Chapter IV.
Book's
Message.
This book's message it's about our freedom and how that is slowly loosing importance in our society. A powerful general like Big Brother managed to take our mind and the people isn't rebelling or complaining. In a society where history is changed as the Party wants, and the mind of everyone is manipulated. In our society we can find some points that are similar or worse than the ones described in the book. Now we are dependent by technology, our mediation is manipulated and strongly targeted, everyday. We are loosing the power of choosing what do we want to see, and worst of all, we cannot know if what we are seeing is true or a fake news, like in the book's society. People aren't complaining, it's like we don't see the problem, and that's alarming, because this is beginning normality for us.

Chapter V.
My favourite
Part.
This is my favourite part of the book, where the book ends with an expected ending: Winston and Julia gets brainwashed and when Winston exits the Ministry of Love, he says he loves Big Brother. The perfect example of the message of the book, where the regime and the Party takes completely control of everyone's mind and nobody can escape. A very impactful moment that breaks every literature standard, where the main character wins against the enemies, here there's only the reality, good or not.
Thank you.
(big brother is watching you).
