WHAT ARE POSSESSIVES?
POSSESSIVE QUESTIONS
POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS
POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
POSSESSIVE NOUNS
The possessive form is used with nouns, ajectives, questions or pronouns showing a relationship of belonging between one thing and another.
We add 's to singular nouns to show possession: We are having a party at John's house. Michael drove his friend's car.
We add ' to plural nouns ending in -s: This is my parents' house. Those are ladies' shoes.
Is a noun that shows ownership, usually identified by ’s.
But we use 's with irregular plural nouns: These are men's shoes. Children's clothes are very expensive.
LET´S GUESS
1. 5 PEOPLE GO OUTSIDE
2. Pick some objects
The rest of the class will pick different objects from some students of the class
3. Students guess
The students that went out of the class should enter again and guess whose objects are those using ´s. The student to guess more owners using possessives correctly wins.
Is that John's car? No, it's mine. (INSTEAD OF No, it's [my car].) Whose coat is this? Is it yours? (INSTEAD OF Is it [your coat]?)
We can use possessive pronouns and nouns after of. - Susan is one of my friends. > Susan is a friend of mine. (NOT Susan is a friend of me.) - I am one of Susan's friends. > I am a friend of Susan's. (NOT I am a friend of Susan.)
1. To show something belongs to somebody:That's our house. My car is very old.
2. For relations and friends:My mother is a doctor. How old is your sister?
We use possessive adjectives:
3. for parts of the body:He's broken his arm. She's washing her hair. I need to clean my teeth.
