Traditional Letter Grades

How are traditional letter grades different than standards-based grades? (Click on each item in the image to learn more)

A: 90% to 100%

  • Getting an A on an assignment means you've done really well and understand the standard!
  • This is comparable to getting a 4 on the proficiency scale.

C: 70%-79%

  • If you get a C on an assignment or test, you are proficient at the skill, but still have some room for improvement.
  • C grades are also comparable to 3 on the proficiency scale.

B: 80%-89%

  • Earning a B is a sign that you're proficient on the standard you are learning.
  • Be proud! A letter grade of B is comparable to a 3.5 on the proficiency scale.

D: 60%-69%

  • If you score a D on an assignment or test, you still have quite a bit of improvement needed on the standard.
  • D grades are comparable to earning a 2 on the proficiency scale.
  • A D is a passing grade.

F: 59% and lower

  • Receiving an F on an assignment or test is a sign that there is a lack of understanding on the standard.
  • F grades are comparable to scores of 1 on the proficiency scale.
  • An F is a failing grade.

Grade Point Average

  • Your grade point average is a numerical representation of your letter grades.
    • A= 4 points
    • B= 3 points
    • C= 2 points
    • D= 1 points
    • F= 0 points
  • Example: If you have 4 A's (4 points each = 16), 2 B's (3 points each = 6), and 1 C (2 points), your GPA will be 3.43 -->
  • (16+6+2) divided by your total number of classes (7).
