Week 4-5
Concepts of measures of central tendency
Teacher discuss the concepts of Measures of Central Tendency
concepts of measures of variation
Teacher discuss the concepts of Measures of Variation
multiple example problems
Teacher provides examples of the content for students to work on.
Introduction to Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Introduce the concept of PBL and its relevance to real-world applications in mathematics. Introduce the planned PBL for the class.
DISCUSSION OF THE LESSON
Teacher will teach the concepts of Measures of Standard Deviation and Measures of Variation
Topic Selection
Students will be given i deas on topics to choose from for the project.
grouping
Students will form groups with a maximum of 4 students in each group.
Final Presentations
Host a showcase event where each group presents their research findings to the class. Encourage students to discuss their data analysis process, interpretations, and the real-world implications of their findings.
Reflection
Lead a reflection session where students can evaluate their experience with the PBL process, reflect on their learning outcomes, and identify areas for improvement in future projects.
Project Exhibition
Display posters or presentations from the PBL projects in a designated area of the classroom or school. Invite other classes or school stakeholders to view the projects and engage in discussions about statistical concepts and their applications.
Assessment and Feedback
Evaluate students' performance based on their project presentations, data analysis, and collaboration within their groups. Provide constructive feedback to help students understand their strengths and areas for growth.
Research Skills Workshop
Conduct a workshop focusing on research skills such as data collection methods, data analysis techniques, and interpreting statistical measures.
Project Proposal
Have each group develop a project proposal outlining their chosen topic, research questions, and proposed methodology. Review and provide feedback on the proposals to ensure alignment with learning objectives.
Data Collection
Guide students in collecting relevant data for their research projects. Encourage them to utilize various sources, including surveys, databases, or real-world examples.
Peer Feedback
Organize peer review sessions where groups can provide constructive feedback on each other's data collection methods and preliminary findings.
Data Analysis
Assist students in analyzing the data they have collected using measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) and measures of variation (range, standard deviation). Guide them how to interpret the results and draw conclusions based on their findings.
Presentation Preparation
Help students prepare their final presentations. Provide guidance on organizing their findings, creating visual aids, and effectively communicating their research results.
