According to the UNWTO specific Agenda for Sustainable Tourism, “Tourism can advance urban infrastructure and accessibility, promote regeneration and preserve cultural and natural heritage"

The main goal of this project is to promote travelling in a sustainable way, that is, by designing digital interactive audio guides through accessible online tools and storytelling platforms, which will engage tourists in trips that leave no environmental footprint.

Pedagogical Guidelines (PDF)

1. GOING GREEN ON AN ECO-JOURNEY

The 10 Sustainability commandments (PDF)

The students have worked with the 10 Commandments of sustainability. They have discussed the small actions they could take in order to make their lives, homes and school more sustainable. While some students made several posters that are now spread throgh the school to increase the climate awareness of all students, others made their own commitment cards. In these cards they commit themselves with a small action to be taken, linked with one or several commandments.

4. Gregorio’S Marathon For the sustainability

Students carried out research interviews on the state of the art of sustainability in our school, then came up with a decalogue including daily sustainable commitments. Finally, they proposed 5 lines of action to continue improving sustainability as an institution.

5. HOW SUSTAINABLE IS OUR SCHOOL? future commitments and proposals

Urban mobility

First step, raise awareness

1st grade learn how they can move around the city using transportation methods that have minimal impact on the environment. Madrid has implemented various solutions to promote sustainable mobility. One solution is expanding the metro and bus networks, making it easier for our students to use public transportation.

  • Reduce air pollution
  • Ease traffic congestion
  • Promote healthier lifestyles
  • Contribute to a cleaner environment

The Race

Everything should be ready for the race where they are the respnsibles for everything going well

Previous Work

Advertising, Logistic, Circuit, Bibs are working on their own and as a group to carry out the race.

Organization

We introduce the project to the different teams. They assign the different roles they are going to perform

What is plogging??

Rodrigo, a Zinker teacher, "paves the way" for colleagues and students.

Sustainable mobility is promoted on school outings and bicycle rides.

Rafa, a Zinker teacher, explains to a student the perks of having an e-car.

After that they have reflected and thought of possible further actions. We selected the most viable ones in order for the students to design and implement them in the last stage of the project.

The have learnt (i) the different ways in which we produce and consume energy and resources, both in general and particularly in the High School, and (ii) they have been shown and explained the actions taken in the school, so they can identify them and understand their impact.

FIRST STAGE: ASSESSMENT + PROPOSAL

In the first evaluation the students have learnt about the Technological Process, Technological Projects, Technical Drawing and Computer Aided Design. In the second evaluation we started the project itself. This first stage consisted in analyzing the most recent actions taken in the Hight School to achieve sustainability.

They will implement both the existing sustainability measurements and the proposed improvements, including, without limitation:

  • Solar panels for renewable electricity production (photovoltaic enery).
  • Automatic control of the lights in the toilets (presence detectors)
  • Installation of LED lights for energy saving.
  • Instalation of a deposit for rain water collection and later use in toilets and garden.
  • Installation of wind turbines for renewable energy production.
  • Installation of piezoelectric floor for electricity production.
  • Installation of static electric bikes for electricity production.
  • Automatic control of the lights for energy saving (LDR sensors, presence sensors and time programmesrs)

After the analysis, the students started the design and construction of the building and its differetn installations (electrical, electronic, etc.) using the provided plans. They used the plans, once they identify the given scale, for building the mock up. We're constructing one building per class, and each team is buiding one floor-wing. Currently they finished the building and almost finished the implementation of the electric installation, while practicing with the electronic devices and doing the desing.

The students discussed about the elaboration of a decalogue to show their daily commitments to the cause. All their ideas were shared in another document. Finally, they proposed 5 lines of action to continue improving sustainability as an institution, specifying further actions and future comitments,

The students interviewed different workers at the school: the principal, the cook, concierges...to investigate their daily tasks and actions and to evaluate how sustainable they are. After the interviews, they elaborated a document using Canva to show the conclusions of their research.

Marta, a Zinker teacher, monitors the solar panels by using an app.

They will implement and test the proposed improvements including, without limitation:

  • Instalation of a deposit for rain water collection and later use in toilets and garden.
  • Installation of wind turbines for renewable energy production.
  • Installation of piezoelectric floor for electricity production.
  • Installation of static electric bikes for electricity production.
  • Automatic control of the lights for energy saving (LDR sensors, presence sensors and time programmesrs).
After that they will think of the ways in which they can spread and disseminate their work and the opportunities for every educational center you can think of:
  • Social media.
  • School website.
  • Presentation of the mock-ups in the High School entrance hall.

THIRD STAGE: FINISHING THE IMPROVEMENTS AND DISSEMINATION

Use of Strava

The app to promote physical activity

We are using this app to promote physical activity in the students, classmates and sedentary relatives. 1st ESO, 2nd ESO and 3rd ESO Students have different challenges 4º ESO Students use this app to organise the circuit they are using in the Gregorio Maratón for the sustainability
