Filling of the Holy Spirit

Even once we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are stuck with that lousy sin nature for as long as we live on earth.
But that doesn’t mean the sin nature has to control us. That doesn’t mean we have to be slaves to sin, misery, and those tricky schemes of Satan.

GOD IS STILL IN CHARGE!
He wants us to use this time to grow up and glorify Him, and He knows we need lots of help. So He gives us a power that lets us do His will. It’s the greatest power in all of heaven and earth, and God gives it to us the moment we believe in Jesus Christ.

THE INSTANT YOU WERE SAVED,
God the Holy Spirit came to live inside of you. He made your body His home—His dwelling place—so that you could use His power to live God’s way.
THE HOLY SPIRIT INDWELLS YOU FOREVER.
You can never lose Him—even when you mess up and choose your way instead of God’s way.

Will you use his power or not?
Filling of the Holy Spirit
Next
If the Holy Spirit lives inside believers—indwells us—why does the Bible still tell us to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
Next
THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY:
If your parents give you an electronic tablet and say, “It’s yours to keep,” it will not work unless you press the power button. If you don’t give that wonderful device electricity, it has no power to help you draw, play games, or do your homework.
Next
Well, the Holy Spirit inside you is a lot like that. He’s there, perfectly capable of helping with everything, but you choose to turn His power on or off.
When He’s on—His power overrules the sin nature. The Holy Spirit is in charge of your soul and helps you live God’s way.
When He’s off—the sin nature gets to control your soul so that you ignore God and do things your way.
Next
So where is the Holy Spirit’s power switch, you ask? It’s your volition!
If you choose to disobey God—if you sin—you turn the Holy Spirit's power off. But if you choose to rebound—to tell God what you did wrong—the Spirit’s power comes right back on.
Next
When His power is on, you are filled with the Holy Spirit.
When His power is off, you are not filled with the Holy Spirit. He cannot help you because you’ve let the sin nature take control.

Let’s look at our top and bottom circles again and see how the Holy Spirit fits into that picture.

Wanna be filled with the Holy Spirit again? Well, just use 1 John 1:9. Tell God the Father what you did wrong, and you’ll instantly turn the Holy Spirit’s power back on. That means you go back into the fellowship circle where you are filled with the Holy Spirit.
