Teacher Interview
A teacher planned a science unit over the water cycle. At the end of the unit the students created a group project, showing their understanding of the water cycle. Once the projects were finished, students will also completed a peer and self assessment.Students also took a multiple choice and short answer unit exam. Before beginning this unit she gave a pre-assessment to gauge prior knowledge of students. Since student showed a clear understanding of basic knowledge on the water cycle, she decided to move forward with the unit. After teaching each lesson, such as a lesson on precipitation, the teacher formatively assessed the class with questiong, discussion, and exit tickets. This example aligns with standard six because the teacher is balancing the use of formative and summative assessments along with a performance assessment to support, verify, and document learning. The teacher, uses these assessments to understand each student's progress to guide the planning and make changes if needed
