Kidney Disease

Types of Kidney Disease

How does a person get kidney disease ?

Kidney disease is developed when the body can no longer filter out waste through the kidney, resulting in build up and failure.

Kidney disease is a medical condition characterized by the kidneys' impaired ability to filter waste and excess fluids from the blood, often resulting in serious complications such as fluid retention, electrolyte imbalances, and toxin buildup. It can be caused by various factors, including high blood pressure, diabetes, infections, autoimmune disorders, and genetic factors.

There are a few types of kidney disease including acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease.

Symptoms of Kidney Disease

Sights and symptoms fof chronic kidney disease develop over time and progress slowly. These can include: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, and increase or decrease in urination.

Kidney failure is more prevalent in males than females in the United States.

- The National Kidney Foundation (NFK) offers contacts for kidney transplant's, dialysis, and financial aid (855-653-2273) - The American Kidney Fund also offers Grants for people struggling financially (www.kidneyfund.org) - Website "Patients Like Me" provides support for patients with kidney disease struggling with mental health issues.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), over 250,000 people died of chronic kidney disease each year in the U.S.

There are a few forms of treatment depending on the severity of the kidney disease, but there is no cure. For beginning cases, lowering blood pressure and swelling medication can be provided. For more severe cases, dialysis or a kidney transplant might be necessary
