In the 1600s, 20 africans were brought to a maritime landmark in Virginia. They were sold an traded as slaves.

Demonstration on August 1963
It ended by passing the civil rights act of 1964, which banned discrimination in voting and employment.
On August 1963, a massive demonstration happened. About 250 000 people attended to protest against racial segregation.

The United States Supreme Court made the racial segregation* illegal in the public schools

The 28 August 2013, was the 50th anniversary of the march on Washington. The president Barack Obama even had a speech to honor the demonstration in 1963.

African slaves in America
They started farming tobacco, cotton and sugar. To fill the lack of workers, they used africans as slaves to work for them.
Back then in 1492, Christopher Colombus and his sailors discovered and colonized a new continent : America.

The congress abolished the importation of African slaves in 1807. After that, the internal trade* in enslaved people increased. *Internal trade : trading inside the coutry.

Emancipation Proclamation of 1863
The president Lincoln issues the emancipation proclamation freeing all the slaves in confederate states.

In 1968, Martin Luther King Jr, a Baptist minister* and a social activist died shot in his Lorraine Motel room by Tenn. James Earl Ray.
