introduction
The Silverstone circuit, located near the village of the same name in Northamptonshire, England, is famous for hosting the first Formula 1 World Championship race on 13 May 1950. Known as the historic home of the British Formula Grand Prix.
silverstone story
Silverstone, originally a 1943 military airfield with three triangle runways, became a post-war racing circuit. The first races took advantage of the tracks connected by bends with straw bales. From 1950, the circuit adopted the perimeter streets, defining a layout that remained almost the same for 37 years. In 1975 a chicane was built in an attempt to limit the speed of the Woodcote curve.
silverstone story part 2
Between 1990 and 1991, Silverstone underwent major changes that slowed down its layout, eliminating historical curves. Further updates were made in 1997, with resurfacing and changes to the curves. In 2010, the circuit was lengthened by 750 meters for Formula 1, and from 2011 the grid and pit lane were moved, introducing a new layout.
