Byron

Introduction

After WW2, on August 14th, 1947, Pakistan declared Independence from Britain, however many of Britains unresolved issues would be passed onto Pakistan. Objective/Goals: An effort to evaluate, investigate, and explore how decolonization carried elements of the past and how they influenced Pakistan during and after decolonization.

Byron

Political

  • According to Associate Professor Dr. Aasim Sajjad Akhtar," the Anglicised gentry, composed of bougouis parties controlled the civilian and military bureaucracies (Akhtar 2)"
  • Garrison State left behind by British Raj
--------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Led to"continuity in the logics of colonial statecraft (Ahktar 2)" or rather systematic exploitation of East Pakistan
  • Inevitable Secession of East Pakistan into Bangledesh
  • Continued Border Skirmishes & wars against recipents of British Raj (Indo-Pakistan war 0f 1971)
Chethan

Economic

    • Government spending dropped by a significant margin
    • Real consumption rose
    • Gross private investment rose
    • The Cold War spawned many tensions between the two superpowers abroad and fears of Communist subversion gripped domestic politics at home.
    • In the twenty years following 1945, there was a broad political consensus concerning the Cold War and anti-Communism. Usually there was bipartisan support for most US foreign policy initiatives.

The Ukrainian Genocide, or Holdomor, was a continuity of previous issues

  • Surging nationalism, national liberation movements, attempts to create Ukrainian state (Ukrainian Socialist Republic)
  • Peasantry rebellions due to forced collectivism
  • Had the deliberate intention to destroy a part of the Ukrainian nation, the bearer of the Ukrainian code – the peasantry (Levyk 4).
  • Exterminated millions of Ukrainians
  • Crushed Ukrainian culture, spirit, and any attempts to nationalize
