The story of Terry Fox
Terry Fox was a regular adolescent growing up near Vancouver in the late 1970s.
He was an athlete and a high school student. He was not the strongest, the fastest, the smartest, or the biggest. However, he was known for his perseverance.
When he was 18 years old, his life changed. He was diagnosed with bone cancer, and had his leg amputated. While he was in the hospital, he was placed in the childrens' section. He decided that if he survived, he would devote himself to cancer research so that these children had better chances of survival.
Once he was cured, Terry Fox decided to run across Canada to collect donations for cancer research. His goal was to run 8000km. To do this, he ran 42km a day (a full marathon) on his prosthetic leg. His goal was to collect $1 for every Canadian and to raise awareness.
At first, no one noticed. The idea seemed impossible. Soon, the whole country was paying attention.
"Anything is possible if you try. Dreams are made possible if you try."
