Introduction

Topic: Vietnam War, the aftermanth after WWII Brief Context: Vietnam was one the main countries that was majorly effected by WWII Objective/Goals: Understanding the social, political and economic consquences after WWII and how it effects our lives today.

Economic

  • Poverty had increased to 70%.
  • The Communist government had began colletivzing farms, resulting in an economic collapse and inflation.
  • French colonists disrupted the economy too by trying to exploit Vietnam.

Political

  • France lost to Nazi Germany in 1940, allowing Japan to occupy French Indochina, weakening French control and aiding nationalist movements.
  • Vietnam was divided into communist North and anti-communist South, leading to US involvement in the Vietnam War.
  • The Vietnam War, from 1964 to 1973, was controversial and significantly impacted American politics and culture.
  • In the early 20th century, a new nationalist movement led by Phan Boi Chau emerged, rejecting French rule but embracing Western ideas and technology.

Social
