Introduction
Topic: Vietnam War, the aftermanth after WWII Brief Context: Vietnam was one the main countries that was majorly effected by WWII Objective/Goals: Understanding the social, political and economic consquences after WWII and how it effects our lives today.
Economic
- Poverty had increased to 70%.
- The Communist government had began colletivzing farms, resulting in an economic collapse and inflation.
- French colonists disrupted the economy too by trying to exploit Vietnam.
Political
- France lost to Nazi Germany in 1940, allowing Japan to occupy French Indochina, weakening French control and aiding nationalist movements.
- Vietnam was divided into communist North and anti-communist South, leading to US involvement in the Vietnam War.
- The Vietnam War, from 1964 to 1973, was controversial and significantly impacted American politics and culture.
- In the early 20th century, a new nationalist movement led by Phan Boi Chau emerged, rejecting French rule but embracing Western ideas and technology.
Social
- more casualties than French.
- Ho chi minh leader of viet minh, communist army that rose up japenese military.
- People were executed and wrongly improsoned after northern vietnam decided to spread wealth among peasants.
- Ngo Dinh Diem became prime minister of south vietnam after it was broken apart
