The main characters are gru and the minions. In Egypt, a boy discovers the Pyramid of Giza is inflatable. Supervillain Gru plans to steal the Moon for prestige, but rival Vector thwarts him. Gru adopts three girls, and they steal from Vector in Superdiverland. Gru's plan for the Moon is rejected by Perkins, so with his daughters and Minions, they steal the Moon and defeat Vector. Gru is saved by Doctor Nefario and minions, as the Moon expands and frees the girls. After a fight with Vector, Gru and the girls are rescued by minions and live happily as a family.

Gru is recruited by the AVL to find the thief of PX-41. With Lucy's help, they suspect Eduardo as "El Macho." Gru realizes his feelings for Lucy, but she is reassigned before he can confess. She discovers that "El Macho" has mutated the Minions to take over the world, and refuses to join him.Lucy falls in love with Gru on her flight to Australia and is captured by "El Macho". Gru rescues Lucy with the help of the Minions and Nefario from her. Together, they stop "El Macho" and save the mutant Minions. Afterwards, they confront a rocket with Lucy tied up, but they manage to escape and fall into the sea. Lucy agrees to go on a date with Gru before the rocket explodes into a volcano.

Gru, an 11-year-old aspiring supervillain, hires Minions to help him join the Vicious 6 group. Despite a failed audition, Gru steals a valuable gem, leading to a showdown with the Vicious 6, a rescue mission, and ultimately bonding with a former villain, Kobra. The Vicious 6's betrayal prompts Kobra to leave villainy, sending Gru on his own journey.During the Chinese New Year parade in Chinatown, Otto and Gru come across the medallion, but are cornered by the Vice 6. The Vice 6 turn into powerful Zodiac animals and kidnap Gru. Kevin, Stuart and Bob are turned into animals, but they manage to defeat the Villains together with the Minions. Kobra returns and fights the Vice 6. Finally, Gru saves everyone by turning the Vice 6 into rats.
