The most common genre : - Reggae, Calypso, Ska, Quelbe and Rocksteady - There are more than 30 different genres in the caribbean - Calypso is related to carnival times. The lyrics have an important social and political revelancy - Reggae is the mixture of comptemporary sounds of north american rock and soul - Quelbe is the mixing of musical cultures in the U.S. virgin island and England

- Organ, guitar, synthesizer and drums - Conga is a latin instruments - Important use of bass instruments to complete with the percussions - A lot of percussion to create polyrhythms = from latin music - The voice is used as an instrument to create call and response invocations - Very complex instrumentals with simple but meaningful lyrics

Music is seen more as a philosophy meant to be enjoyed and shared. Also bands are more practical since the caribbean music requires a lot of different instruments.

- First edition of the caribbean music awards in september 2023. It's the first ceremony awarding caribbean music. It takes place in NYC and not in the caribbean, which is criticised.goal of the event = promote, acknowledge and contribute to the musical culture of the caribbean.- Kabaka Pyramid has a grammy for the best reggae album = shows that reggae is worldwildly known and acknowledged. He recived the impact award and the album of the year award at the caribbean music award. -Niki Minaj received the best colaboration award for her song with Skeng Likkle Miss -Now caribbean music is more and more famous - The instrumentals are more and more electronic especially in calypso.
