Romeo & Juliet
"Romeo and Juliet" is a tragedy written around 1595 and represented for the first time around 1597. The play set in Verona and revolves around the tragic love story of Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet. These two families are sworn enemies, but Romeo and Juliet fell deeply in love with eachother. The play explores themes of love, faith and death.

HAMLET
"Hamlet" is a tragedy written around 1600-1602. The play follows Prince hamlet of Denmark as he seeks revenge againts his uncle, Claudius, who murdered Hamlet's father and married Hamlet's mother. The play explores themes of madness, revenge, different kinds of love and the complexity of human nature. Hamlet's famous soliloquy "To be, or not to be" reflects his existential struggle and contemplation of life and death.

In 1593 the London theatres were closed because of the plague. During this time, Shakespeare needed the support of a private paitron and he found it in a young nobleman, the Earl of Southampton, to whom he dedicated his poems

The Tempest
"The Tempest" is belived to have been written around 1610-1611 and it's considered one of the latest Shakespeare's works. The play begins with a shipwreck caused by a tempest conjured by Prospero, who has been living on a remote island with his daughter, Miranda, for twelve years. The story explores themes of power, magic, betrayal and ultimately the play ends with forgiveness and reconciliation

"The merchant of Venice" is a play written around 1598. Originally classified as a comedy, is now considered Shakespeare's most controversial play. The play is set in Venice but it revolves into several plots, but the main ones is the dispute about a financial loan between Antonio ( a venetian) and Shylock (a jewish) and the search for a husband for Portia. The play explores various types of love, is alway present the theme of mercy and the theme of appearance vs reality.

William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in November 1582 and they remained married until Shakespeare's death. At the time of their marriage William was 18, while Anne was 26 and pregnant with their first child. Anne and William's first daughter, Susanna, was born six months after their marriage, and they would go on to have twins Judith and Hamnet a few years later

THE GLOBE THEATRE
The Globe Theatre was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men. It was a round, open-air theatre with a capacity for around 3,000 spectators. In 1613 during a performance of "Henry VIII" a cannon shot set fire to the thatched roof and the Globe burned down. It was rebuilt the following years but closed by Puritans in 1642 and demolished in 1644. In 1997 a modern reconstruction was open near the original site and it continues to host performances
