What is an e portfolio?

According the the University of Waterloo, an ePortfolio is a digital collection created by a student (or a professional) that features their academic works (artifacts) such as essays, posters, photographs or videos. They (ePortfolios) can also highlight items/or events associated with their personal life like employment history, volunteer experience, etc.

  • Work inprogress.
  • Often called learning development, relection or formative portfolio.
  • Assembled as the learning is happening with a focus on reflections.
  • More formal and not usually student-centered, it can be called a showcase ot process portfolio.
  • Documents leaning in line with curriculum objectives.
  • A collection of best work.
  • Can be called presentation or a formal, professional or career porfolio.
  • Created after learning takes places and may involve student choice.
  • Combination of the showcase, process and/or assessment portfolio.
  • Artifacrts may be moved from a process portfolio into an assessment or showcase portfolio.
