Setting

The setting is the auditorium. " somethings wrong..the doors are locked." (Nijkamp pg. 29), this is the starting point. The doors were locked and they soon got stuck in the worst room that was screaming death. Tomas was in the office knowing nothing of what would soon happen to his little sister. The shots send echos of scream around the haunted halls. It soon turns into people running trying to escape with the suspense of not knowing what would happen tho them, only knowing they needed to have courage in order to get through this.

Symbolizing

This book symbolizes one thing. Life doesn't go the way you plan. "this isnt the Tyler i knew" (Nijkamp pg. 126), they didnt expect Tyler to shoot up the school, yet he did. Soon after, it goes to everyone escaping. Kids start running out of the school doors, while everyone anticipates if their kid is alive or not. The settings end to where the shooter kills himself, this sets up a very suprised tone, but it does show you that you choose how to live your life.

Structure

The bbook is told in four point of views within 54 minutes. Every new chapter is a new 4 point of views within a few minutes of being stuck with a school shooter who is killing alot of people. This shows howlong it feels for them in a life and death situation, while all point of views have some connection to the shooter. This adds a serious tone and a suspensing mood to the book. These elements make the book more emotional to the reader, which helps you also feel the courage they are forced to have.

Theme

The theme is about courage and reslilience This story is written in four point of views from the students at the school. "I force my breathing to slow and relax my shoulders" (Nijkamp pg. 128), Thomas is choosing courage over fear because he wants to rescue his sister from getting shot. "well stop him.We will save everyone" (Nijkamp pg. 155), Sylvia is choosing to help save everyone, even when her girrlfriend is getting shot at slowly. "...its the right thing to do. I swallow. Your right Tyler" (Nijkamp pg. 136), Autumn is standing up to her brother, the school shooter, just so she can help everyone stay alive, even if he might kill her,

Characters

Autumn She is an anti hero to people. "the looks are no longer pitiful, they are filled with anger"(Nijkamp pg. 124), if she stood up, a girl wouldnt have died, but she didnt. Her could have been heroness, soon turned into a villan.

Sylvia She is Autumns girlfriend aond one of Tylers kill liste peopel. She tries to save everyone while also being the one Tyler is trying to find

Claire Claire is an outside point of view to see how people are feeling from the outside. She loses her brother because her ex boyfriend killed him. Nothing else is really relevent except for how she shows us how the shooter got in.

Tomas He is a hero. "I inch the door open", Tomas and Fareed opened the chained doors to help the people stuck in hell. Nobdy knew he did it, but he did it to keep his sister and everyone else alive a little more.
