EDGAR ALLAN POE

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, author, editor, and literary critic who is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his tales of mystery and the macabre.

One of Poe's shortest tales, a nameless narrator confesses that he has killed an old man. He described how one night he slid into the old's man room, stabbed him to death and concealed the body under the floorboards. When the police arrive, summoned by a neighbor who heard shrieking in the night, the narrator initially keeps his calm. However, he soon starts to hear a strange noise in his ears, which gradually becomes obsessive. He realises it is the sound of the death's man heart, under the floor. In the end, unable to stand the disturbing noise any longer, he orders the police to pull up the floorboards and he confesses his crime.

His literary career truly began 1833. Poe is know for his Gothic style and his interest in the macabre and mysterious. His fiction and poem often explore themes such as death,madness. Most of Poe story are toldin the first person.

Was born in Boston in 1809Poe had a life marked by tragedy and hardship.After his parent's early deaths, Poe was adopted by a wealthy but turbulent family. Dropped out of both institutions to financial and disciplinary problems. He struggled with alcoholism and suffered from mental health problem, including depression. He died in 1849 under mysterious circumstances.
