What you learn in this lesson
In this lesson, you will learn about the nerves that help you move the parts of your body from the neck down. These nerves come from your spinal cord and are called spinal nerves.
The peripheral (peh-rih-feh-ral) nervous system is made of cranial (cray-nee-uhl) nerves that come from the brain and spinal nerves that come from the spinal cord.
Your brain is in the part of your head or skull called the cranium (kray-nee-um).
Your spinal cord is a long strand of nerves that run through your spine. Your spine is also called your backbone.
Spinal nerves have this name because they come from your spine. You have 31 pairs of spinal nerves. Let's find some numbers for spinal nerves from different parts of the spine.
