The horizon is higher then as normal so the sea look larger even if the sizes of the beach and the sea are not balanced. This make the sea the real subject of the painting.

Also the absence of an escape point make really important the sea becouse it and the boats give the propective of the painting and so the whole horizon become the escape point.
