Costa Rica

Costa rica is a very good choice for travel or holidays as it has a good climate and very well hotels.

By Alejandro and Daniel

Why are the inhabitants called Ticos? The story goes back a long way. In 1856 and 1857 Costa Rica was besieged by an army of filibustering pirates who wanted to raid the coast. Costa Rica had help from soldiers from other neighbouring countries, who noticed that the Costa Rican fighters used the diminutive -ico, -ica (chiquitico, for example) a lot. In addition, they affectionately addressed their compatriots as hermaniticos. With time and continued use, the inhabitants of the country came to be called ticos and ticas.

The Costa Rican currency is the Costa Rican colón (₡) and is currently worth 1 euro = 725 colones, although dollars are widely used and you'll even find prices in both dollars and local currency in many shops.

There are many interesting areas to visit but these are some of the best: Poas Volcano, a national park (Tortuguero), an area (Puerto Viejo) where there are beautiful landscapes, a volcano and another national park (Cahuita), another part called La Fortuna is also very interesting where there is another national park (Arenal Volcano) and La Fortuna Waterfall.

The best time to travel to Costa Rica is the dry season (December to April).
