A way to measure Metabolic Rate through a hand-made device.

Today YOU are GOING TO investigate abOUT THE METABOLIC RATE.NOW, YOU SHOULD START TO THINK OF IDEAS TO CREATE A METABOLIC RATE MACHINE!
Hypothesis
Blue light wavelength will be the most efficient one in plant metabolic processing.

Method
Build up the "new enviroment"
Process we went through, in order to achieve the last result of our METABOLIC RATE MACHINE.

Cultivate the Plant
In this case: Berberis specie
Set up the CO2 Sensor
To detect CO2 levels in the new enviroment
Plant Exposure to different colour lights
White, Red and Blue
Take measurments of each trial after 20 min!

In the table it can be seen the corresponding metabolic rate measured with each light wavelength.

The metabolic rate can be represented into a graph which shows:
- Blue Light has the highest metabolic rate.
- Followed by the red and last the white.
- The quantities are shown small as we made a conversion from ppm to moles.
3. Blue light enhace plant respiration and photosynthesis
1. Our Initial Hypothesis was correct!
Blue light was the wavelength most efficient for metabolic processes.
Blue wavelengths are optimal to be absorbed by plant pigments.
4. The Sun is still the best option!
2.Answer our Research Question
It is a free, natural, renewable light resource for plants.
Light Wavelengths DO affect the metabolism rate of a plant.
Our Reflection
We did not only improved in the scientific area, but we:
- Improve Collective Work.
- Prepare our internal assessments for the IB programme.
- Value teachers, scientific coordinator and lab technician´s time and advise.
