Charles Booth is known for his work "Life and Labour of the People in London". His work played a significant role in the introduction of: - the Old Age Pensions Act (1908) - the establishment of the Labour Exchanges (1909)
Benjamin Rowntree (1871-1954)
Rowntree's work
Rowntree carried out a survey into the living conditions of the poor in York. He conducted three studies: -Poverty, A Study of Town Life (1901) -Poverty and Progress (1936) -Poverty and the Welfare State (1951)
