MECHANICS:

  • You will be divided into four groups.
  • Each group will go to their designated station.
  • Each group will identify what type of writing is given.
  • After identifying, one to two representative/s per group will share their answer.
  • You are only given 2 minutes to identify the type of writing in your station.

Welcome to the Big Top of Journalistic Writing! Today, we will explore the exciting world of a festival circus, but instead of juggling popcorn and cotton candy, you'll be juggling different journalistic styles.

Imagine a vibrant festival circus has come to town, filled with dazzling acrobatics, thrilling animal performances, and a vibrant cultural celebration.

learning objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

  • identify the different types of journalistic writing;
  • distinguish among types of journalistic writing (news report, opinion articles, and sports news article); and
  • create a title for an article.

Let's break it down with a little circus drama. Imagine our ringmaster, Mr. Bartholomew, juggling different types of writing

  • tackles the events of the day
  • includes news from local, national, and international setting
  • focuses on the most important facts, which are usually found in the lead

  • could also talk about a more personal and in-depth approach to a news event
